INIMITABLE AND SUPERIOR

Down is a genuine natural material that allows birds to survive even in extreme freezing conditions. Down is the most valuable part of the plumage, and its excellent thermal properties are a result of its porous structure. Down holds in plenty of air, thus forming a warm and breathable insulating layer. Down's structural properties – lightness, fluffiness, and durability – make it unique; by weight the world's best insulating material.

Down is obtained only from aquatic birds. Joutsen Finland uses the best down in the world. Goose and duck down is acquired from the best, carefully selected European producers only, since down of sufficiently high quality is generated only in natural, good living conditions and in areas with a cold climate. The down used for insulation in Joutsen products is a by-product of food production. Joutsen Finland does not use feathers or down hand-plucked from living birds. All of our raw material suppliers must provide a certificate that the down and feather materials supplied for our products are not hand-plucked from living birds.

In the most valuable export items, Joutsen down quilts, very rare eiderdown is also used. This eiderdown is harvested from abandoned nests in the Finnish outer archipelago.
